About Bushcoon Maine Coon Cattery
Welcome to our crazy home. We live on a game farm in the Sunshine Coast region of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. I simply love animals. Always jokingly said my husband will have to buy a farm for me to keep all my animals. In 2017 this dream finally came true. We moved from the hustle and bustle of Joburg to our farm.
Many years ago, my husband and I got a teeny tiny kitten from a work colleague. They were giving away the kittens. We later found out the mother was a purebred maine coon. Having cats all my life, I immediately learned this cat is not like ANY cat I ever had before. He was super clever, used his paws like hands and had to be kept occupied or else boredom would lead to all kinds of mischief.
We took him to the vet for his shots and I asked if he thought our cat was special…. he jokingly replied it is a Norwegian Bush cat, I did not know at that time that such a breed even existed. We thought he was making fun of us because we lived in a cabin near the Hennops River. One day at the mall we came across a cat exhibition and there on display was "our cat”, a black tabby maine coon. I then started reading up and researching the breed and just fell more in love with them.
On the farm I was finally in the right place to start expanding on my love for this breed. Our cats are part of our home and family. All kittens are raised in our busy crazy home and are there for well socialised and adapt to family life. Our cats are used to being indoors and playing in their secured fenced garden, with huge old trees. It is completely electrified and they cannot roam free for their own protection. But it is so big that they actually feel like they are free roaming.
A maine coon always want to be around his humans so won’t necessarily want to be far from where you are. They are forever supervising you and will eagerly lend a helping hand around the house. Our very first one was so jealous that we took the dogs on hikes around the Hennops Pride Resort that he decided to join us on those hikes.
Screaming and shouting behind us, his bushy tail sticking out from the tall grass, telling us to wait up!
All I want for my kittens is to be LOVED AND WORSHIPPED by their new furever homes. Their properties enclosed and secured NOT for them to get out and roam the streets freely where cars can run them over or they can be locked in and starve to death or the many other horrendous things that can happen to cats. Not mentioning that other families will easily adopt and feed a "stray" maine coon because they are just such beautiful charismatic cats.
